Well, here I am posting nearly a whole month after we arrived home from the hospital with Burke. He is doing GREAT and loving life with out oxygen and the feeding tube. Yep, that's right- the feeding tube it out- for a 5 week trial basis. But, it is at least out for now. We are really hoping and praying that he will gain weight over these next few weeks so we can leave the "gross" tube out! As for now he seems to be eating like a champ. We were worried at first, but now he seems to have more energy to eat and he actually asks for food and tells us when he is hungry! That is progress for sure!
Like I said above we have been home for awhile. Time just flies by! Burke is now 7 weeks post op- and I can't believe it! He has more energy than ever before. He does get tired every so often but he runs, plays, sings (a lot) and now has enough energy to ride his trike! He talks and talks and talks now like never before. He even pretends more now too. He is our little puppy now who barks like a little puppy and crawls around the house on all fours acting like a dog! He never had the energy before to even think of doing things like that. He always left that up to Emma, but now he takes over and plays a ton!
We are also adjusting to life with a new and changed little 2 year old boy. Bed time was soooo easy with Burke before his heart was fixed. He would simply go right to sleep after stories and songs with out a whine or a cry. If he ever did cry he would get tired out so quickly that he would just go right to sleep. Now, Mr. Burke has attempted to climb out of his crib! He tried that maybe ONCE before this surgery, but he didn't have the energy to hardly get his leg up on the side of the crib let alone climb out! But now! Oh man. He gets up on the side of the crib nearly every night! Yep, we have a normal 2 1/2 year old now. He cries when it's time for bed. When I lay him in his crib he immediately jumps up and cries for me to "WAIT"! He protests now and tries to get out of going to sleep by asking for food. He is good, because right now, there is NO WAY I will tell him he can't have food. If he wants food no matter day or night he gets it! Yep, he's good! So, for all those out there with normal 2 year olds- I need help! I haven't dealt with a two year old in a long time- I'm a little rusty!
Boy are we so glad to be home. We are enjoying the sun and weather here and are LOVING it! Over all we are doing well and enjoying our new year with new and exciting experiences. I have so much to blog about; like the rest of the time in the hospital, these last 3 or 4 weeks being home, our new resolutions, and Tyler's birthday-it's today by the way!!
We have so much to be grateful for and I see the blessings and tender mercies of the Lord in my life everyday just looking at Burke. He is a miracle and I am grateful he is still here to live and experience what this life has to offer! I will post pictures soon- I promise. And I apologize to all those who have been following our blog and waiting to see what was going on with Burke. He is well and we are well. Thank you all for all the prayers- they have made this miracle come to pass. We are grateful for your prayers and faith. Thank you!

YAY!! and hilarious post about bed time!! He is good! Good luck with that! I'm a sucker too.. hopefully I can pull out of it before they get too big and pull bigger stunts that I really can't handle! haha.. anyway.. welcome back! We are so happy you are all here safe and sound
We are so glad that Burke is doing so well. I love hearing two-year-olds sing - especially when they make up their own words. There are a lot of fun things at this age (and a lot of not so fun things). Ella is in the refuse to put on my jacket stage (you should see the looks I get when I let her walk outside without it on) and the refuse to get in my car seat stage . . . but she is also a lot of fun :)
Happy Birthday, Tyler!!! Thanks for the update. So glad to hear Burke and everybody else are doing well. I have to say, Max never climbed out of his crib, so I can't help you on that one. I'm sure Cole will though... he is much more adventurous than Max was.
Love the pics! Thanks for posting them. What a miracle this all is. (Just wondering if you have sent the pic with the quilt to anyone yet? I won't say anything if you haven't.)
Marth- no not yet that is what we are working on this weekend! Thanks!
We are so glad to hear such great news! It sounds like you now have your hands full in other ways - how fun! I'm really jealous that you guys are enjoying warm and sunny AZ. I can't wait to get my 2 year old back outside to play!
Happy Birthday to Tyler!
so amazing to see him WITHOUT all those tubes!! he looks like a different little boy! hope to see you all soon!??!!
